ECSF raises the second of four barge hull sections into place for welding.
UVa architecture students block out a steel water channel before pouring bathroom slab.
UVa architecture students assemble the armature wall. The armature wall contains water and energyrelated barge components - solar and wind power collection units, water collection apparatus, bilge and toilet rooms.
UVa architecture students lay concrete in formwork for deck mounted wetland basins.
UVa architecture students screed concrete in formwork for deck mounted wetland basins.
The barge takes its first dip in the Elizabeth River. The lifting crane, also mounted on a barge, picked the Learning Barge up from the shipyard bulkhead and eased her into the water.
The Barge embarks on its first voyage to a berth adjacent to The Elizabeth River Project's offices in Portsmouth, Virginia. At this point, the barge is about 95% complete, and final preparations were made in Portsmouth.
